Project Description:
Al Faw Grand Port is a project to construct new cargo terminal, located in Southern region of Iraq, able to receive, store and dispatch bulk materials and container. The project includes the following main facilities:
- Tank Farm receiving refined HC products via pipeline from existing plants.
- Transfer Pipeline from Tank farm to Marine terminal for refined HC products import and export via tankers.
- Marine Terminals provided with loading arms for tanker loading and unloading and fueling operations.
- Navy Base.
- Maritime container terminal.
- Dry Bulk cargo terminal.
- Fuel Storage Area, for fueling vehicles and ship’s bunkering.
- Pipeline import for Gasoil, Fuel Oil, Marine Diesel and Gasoline.
- Desalination Plant.
- Power Plant.
- Other utilities systems (i.e. sewage, air compression, etc.).
Fiscal metering Station have been foreseen for each imported product from pipeline and for exported product from tank area.
Instrumentation and Automation activities performed:
The Automation and Instrumentation department has developed Basic Engineering and Front End Engineering Design for Process Control and Safety Systems, Fiscal Metering System philosophy and Tank Farm Automatic accounting system.
Field Instrument design and Control Valve sizing has developed for field engineering detailed design including datasheet preparation for field instrumentation, cable routing layout and Instrument list.
HSE activities performed:
HSE department was involved into the Hazardous Areas Classification for the Tank Farm, Marine Terminals and Navy Base, according to the API 505 standard, into Quantitative Risk Analysis for the identification of the main contributors to the overall risk, including frequency assessment (according to API RP 581) and ignition probability determination by means of in-house Auriga Consulting excel files. Consequence analysis of flammables releases was performed using PHAST software, and Risk Assessment through IRPA risk indicator evaluation.
Auriga also provide Chairman and Technical Scribe for the HAZOP and the SIL workshops.
